If you have been using blogs since a while, you must already have
been introduced to the world of widgets. Widgets are nifty sets of code
that adds features to the blog, or make your blog more user friendly.
Like everything else in life, there are several widgets available, and
you would be hard pressed to choose which ones would be best for your
blog.
Simply put, different blogs would require different widgets
and it all depends on which niche your blog targets. For example, if
you have a movie themed blog, you would require a widget that shows
slideshows, while if you have a blog related to recipes, you would
require a widget that allows you to easily create categories and sub
categories, etc. While these are widgets which would be useful for only
a certain type of blogs, there are some must have widgets which should
be implemented by everyone having a blog. Here are the top three among
them:
Akismet: So useful is this widget that it now comes installed with
WordPress, you just need to activate it. We all have gone through the
stage where we got comments which we knew for sure were spam but did not
want to delete them – they were our first comments! However, Akismet
takes you out of this quandary by boldly going where you wouldn’t – and
marks spam comments for what they truly are – spam, and then prod you on
to delete them.
WP-Navi: WP-Navi is another widget that is quite useful for people
who want a more professional look to their blogs. Traditionally, blogs
have an Earlier Post and Newer Post navigation, which might make the
readers lose out on some important posts. The WP-Navi widget adds a
page by page navigation to your blog.
WP-Cumulus: The tag cloud is a very important widget for those who do
not want to bother with categories, and site navigation, etc. However,
if you are trigger happy when it comes to tags, you might end up making a
lot of tags, which would finally make the blog look spammy. This widget
adds some beauty to your otherwise staid tag cloud.
